Challenge

Could I have a nice time in a hospital? How could a hospital be more entertaining? In general, can a hospital be a comfortable place? In the future, can a hospital be transformed into an wellbeing or “entertainment center”?

Background

Almost all of us are sometimes hospitalized. The comfort of the environment is a well-known promoter of the health and wellbeing. A comfortable environment could accelerate healing and create a sense of security. Although the hospital needs patients to function, it is also desirable to get them out of the hospital as soon as possible. Sometimes, waiting times are prolonged, which may be frustrating. Why time could not be utilized in an entertaining way, to avoid the perception of long and miserable waiting time? Could it be possible to relax and have good time, and promote your health and wellbeing while waiting?

Approach and considerations

You could approach this comfort and wellbeing related challenge, for example, from the perspectives of awaiting clients, their relatives, or patients in the ward. The inspiring approaches for this challenges might be found e.g. in visualization, audiovisual design, or gamification. Serious games should be simple to use.

The games could teach, for example, hospital activities. Games for children can reduce children’s fears. Think about the situation where a child is visiting a dentist. Another idea would be to think about the conditions of the patients and think how they could benefit from the games or game-like applications.
